Sleep Apnea is a serious, potentially life-threatening condition that is far more common than generally understood. It is characterised by brief interruptions of breathing during sleep.
Obstructive Sleep Apnea (OSA) occurs when air cannot flow into or out of the person’s nose or mouth although efforts to breathe continue.
The number of involuntary breathing pauses (apnea events) may be as high as 20 to 60 or more per hour. The frequent interruptions of deep, restorative sleep often leads to excessive daytime sleepiness and may be associated with an early morning headache.
For all CPAP purchases, we provide a Tax Invoice with our Australian Business Number (ABN) marked as “PAID”. This (and a doctor's prescription) is usually all a health fund provider needs to approve an eligible customer’s claim for a CPAP machine rebate (typically between $150 and $1500).
Please check with your health fund provider to see if your policy provides a CPAP rebate, and what supporting material they require to make a claim.
No. You are the customer and it is up to you to make the buying decision. Trials are a good way for you to experience different types of machines and masks, and you are paying for this service. Towards the end of the trial you should be in a position to know what equipment you need to purchase.
Please contact us a week or two before your trial ends so we can help you save hundreds of dollars.
Yes! CPAP therapy is designed to keep your upper airway open during sleep. One of the great benefits is no snoring and a happier bed partner.
An Automatic CPAP (APAP) machine is recommended, and in fact, the BMC RESmart™ Auto can detect the onset of snoring and automatically increase the pressure to help prevent this, even when lying on your back.
Yes. Being aware of your “AHI” can be an important step in managing and improving your sleep therapy.
The BMC range of RESmart™ CPAP and APAP machines will display the last nights sleep performance data on the display screen.
Usually this is enough for the typical user to feel confident that the sleep therapy is providing the necessary benefits.
If you really want to delve deeper and track your progress, then the amazing BMC i-Codes feature is the way to go. Please click here for more details on the BMC “i-Codes”.
AHI stands for Apnea Hypopnea Index. Simply, the AHI is the average number of times per hour you stop breathing for 10 seconds or more.
So if you slept for 10 hours (wouldn't that be nice) and your AHI reading was 1.0, then you would have experienced 10 apnea events during your sleep. Anything under AHI = 5.0 (that is 5 apnea events per hour) is the benchmark, and it is considered that your sleep apnea is under control.
CPAP Machines are the cheapest option. The BMC RESmart™ CPAP provides a constant amount of pressure to keep the upper airway open during sleep. The amount of pressure needs to be determined by a recently sleep study, followed up by a Doctors' prescription which will state the “treatment pressure”.
APAP Machines are the best option. The BMC RESmart™ Auto is a stylish and quiet therapy system for the treatment of Obstructive Sleep Apnoea (OSA). The Automatic Positive Airway Pressure (APAP) helps prevent the collapse of upper airways during sleep.
The BMC RESmart™ Auto has three modes of operation;
CPAP Mode: A constant fixed Treatment Pressure.
Auto Mode: The Treatment Pressure will be maintained, but if needed, may be automatically increased during sleep, up to the maximum treatment pressure to help keep the upper airway open.
Titration Mode: The pressure will automatically vary constantly between the Initial Treatment Pressure, the Treatment Pressure, or the Maximum Pressure, depending on what the machine determines is necessary to keep the upper airway open. In my personal experience, this is the most comfortable mode of operation.

Yes, it is your machine and it is possible. Some experienced CPAP / APAP users like to manage their own healthcare, and there can be benefits in doing so.
However, you first need to understand and learn about the associated risks and benefits. Before making any changes, we strongly advise you to discuss the reasons why you may wish to change the pressure settings on your machine with your healthcare professional.
Some describe it as like having a fan running in the bedroom, others like having the air conditioning running. Click here to listen to the sound of the BMC Auto.
Visit our YouTube™ channel to watch/listen to the BMC Auto and another well known brand. Both machines are running at 4cmH20 pressure, without a hose/mask connected, recorded from approx. 15cm distance.
Currently we only carry the BMC range of CPAP/APAP machines in stock.
We are not able to supply other brands of CPAP machines at this time, but this maybe possible in the future.
Please contact us to discuss your different brand requirements.

The BMC range of CPAP/APAP machines do not use an SD card.
The powerful embedded memory stores the last night's full raw data which can be reviewed on the LCD screen.
More than 30 years of therapy data can be retrieved from your machine by your BMC equipment supplier.
If you or your health care professional want to delve deeper and track your sleep therapy progress, then the amazing BMC i-Codes feature is the way to go.
There is no SD card needed and no complicated software to install.
Better still, i-codes enables your data to be retrieved locally. Your sleep therapy graphs can then be generated remotely and emailed directly to you.
* Due to popular demand, this terrific i-code feature has now been added to the BMC range of CPAP Machines.
Please click here for more details on the BMC “i-Codes”.
Yes. Both the CPAP and APAP machines are set to start the airflow automatically when the machine detects the start of breathing.
These machines will automatically stop the airflow after around 5 seconds after the mask has been removed.
There are three common types of CPAP masks available;
![]() |
Full Face Masks: Covering the nose and mouth, they are more recommended for “Mouth Breathers“ and those with high CPAP pressure requirements. Unfortunately, they are quite bulky and the size and weight can make wearing the mask an uncomfortable experience. Air leaks are a common complaint, especially when lying on your side or turning over during sleep. Sizes include small, medium and large. |
![]() |
Nasal Masks: Covering only the nose area, the new generation of masks are quite comfortable. However, air leaks can be a problem due to a poorly fitted or worn mask, especially when lying on your side or turning over during sleep. Sizes include small, medium and large. |
![]() |
Nasal Pillow Masks: By far the most comfortable and lightweight. Nasal pillows fit snuggly inside the nasal passage providing an excellent seal and a great nights sleep. The BMC nasal pillow mask is one of the best nasal pillow masks on the market today. One size fits all with small, medium and large pillows included. |
Every CPAP user is unique, not only because of the size and shape of facial features, but also for the degree of tolerance to CPAP therapy and comfort levels.
Finding the correct size of mask can be difficult, especially as the masks are sealed for hygiene purposes and can not be returned once opened.
There is often a number of different sizes for each mask type, and so it can be difficult to know which one is best for you.
Full Face Mask Sizing
The BMC Full Face Masks come in small, medium and large sizes.
Nasal Mask Sizing
The BMC Nasal Masks come in small, medium and large sizes.
Nasal Pillow Mask Sizing
The BMC Nasal Pillow Mask is very versatile, because the mask we provide includes three different sized pillows all in the one packaging. The nasal pillow mask comes with medium sized pillows fitted, but also includes small and large size pillows in the same packaging. Nice!
In summary, the Nasal Pillow Mask is the most versatile, and it would be almost impossible to get the wrong size.
If you are looking to purchase a Nasal or Full Face mask on-line, it would be best to buy based on previous experience, such as choosing the mask you used during your CPAP trial. You could also get your sized checked at your local CPAP shop and buy from them.
Unfortunately we are not able to supply other brands of masks at this time, but this may be possible in the future.
Please contact us and let us know which type and size of mask you need. We will let you know if we can supply, or at least point you in the right direction.
